Twelve Days Backpacking to Zanskar-Leh- Ladakh via Srinagar and Manali


The long stretches of frivolous snow-clad mountains, verdant wavering foliage and the gleaming blue water accompanies the many fascinating vistas that prevails in the land of Jammu & Kashmir. The state is carefully divided in to three prime regions namely, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, which are fringed by Great Himalayan and Pir Panjal range. A well-deployed state for tourism and adventure, it is set amidst majestic beauty of nature that rejuvenates and offers impeccable peace of mind. Travel to Jammu & Kashmir to find a world away from the confines of mundane. Srinagar is an epitome of romance and sublime nature. The summer capital of the state of Jammu & Kashmir, it is situated perfectly at the heart of Kashmir Valley. Inarguably picturesque and surprisingly humble, Srinagar is a decent host for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. Leh-Ladakh is often referred to as the ‘Land of Buddhism’ and is not only a heaven for nature enthusiasts but, also an empyrean for passionate adventure lovers and thrill seekers who specially travel here from different corners of the globe to satiate their adrenaline-filled desires for an unprecedented adventure of trekking, mountain biking, river rafting and high-altitude camping; Leh’s neighbouring valleys of ‘Nubra’ and ‘Markha’ count amongst the most popular trekking destinations.

    Start Trip from Srinagar :

    We start our trip by reaching Srinagar latest by 15:00 Hrs. & check into the Guest House beside Dal Lake.

    Evening is to get to know one another and relaxing around Dal Lake in Shikara.

    Journey to Kargil :

    We leave early morning at 06:00 Hrs from Srinagar via bus.

    En-route, we visit Sonmarg, also known as ‘The Meadow of Gold’. We take lunch at Drass, The Gateway to Ladakh, world’s second coldest inhabited place.

    We reach Kargil around 16:30 Hrs. & check into the Guest-House.

    Journey to Zanskar (Padum) :

    We start out early in the morning by Jeep for a 12 hours long journey to Zanskar Village in Padum approximately 231 Km away. En-route, we visit villages Sanko, Panikhar, Parkachik. We stop in Rangdum for Lunch.

    Reach Padum around 16:00 Hrs and check into a Guest House.

    Zanskar Exploration :

    Post Breakfast, we start out for local sightseeing. Visit Zanskar village Zangla and Zangla Palace. Explore Stongdey Monastery (Hiking).

    Return back to Padum by Evening.

    Zanskar Exploration and Relaxation :

    This is our last day in Padum. We explore nearby Monasteries and unwind ourselves.

    Journey to Leh :

    Early morning, we start for Kargil. We reach Kargil by the same route. Enroute we take lunch in Rangdum. Reach Kargil by 16:00 Hrs.

    We take a short break and then start the journey from Kargil to Leh. Reach Leh by 21:00 Hrs. We check into a Guesthouse. Overnight stay at Leh.

    Leh Exploration :

    We relax and start our day late. Post lunch, we start local sightseeing by car. Visit three Monasteries - Shey,Thiksey and Hemis.

    Return back to Guesthouse by evening.

    A Visit to Pangong Tso :

    Post Breakfast, we start for the high altitude Lake Pangong Tso. Reach Pangong around 13:00 Hrs. We shall be able to chill around the Pangong Lake and return back to Leh by the evening.

    Overnight stay at Leh.

    Leh Exploration and Journey to Manali :

    This is the last day in Leh. The first half of the day is for exploration of the Leh Palace or to wander through the tiny lanes of the city Leh.

    Around 17:00 Hrs. we start towards Manali by Jeep/Tempo Traveler.

    Relaxation in Manali :

    We reach Manali around 06:00 Hrs & check into a Hostel in Manali.

    Overnight Stay at Manali.

    Manali Exploration and Journey to Delhi :

    This is the last day of our Backpacking Trip. In the morning, one can explore the streets of Old Manali.

    Post Lunch we ride in Tata HRTC bus from Manali for Delhi.

    The End :

    Reach ISBT Kashmiri Gate New Delhi around 06:00 Hrs.
