Charkhol in Kalimpong

Description

Charkhol (also spelled as Charkhole) is just eight beautiful wooden cottages at an altitude of 5000 feet overlooking a green valley with magnificent views of Mt. Kanchenjungha. It is one of the newest destinations on the Eastern Himalayas just 15 km off Lolegaon’s tourist din and 30 km from Kalimpong. Situated amidst the deep, moist woods of towering pine, cypress, oak and rhododendrons, this sleepy valley of Charkhol is also a bird watcher’s delight. In Charkhol, you can build a bonfire at night under the star-studded sky, take a nature walk amidst the coniferous forests under the warm glow of the sun with birds and colorful flora everywhere or brisk on the village resort’s jogging track. But, the best thing you can do is to sit on the soft mushy grass of the valley with your cup of tea and watch the riot of colors on Mt. Kanchenjungha.

    Charkhol is a small valley tucked 15 km off Lolegaon in a strategic point which has one of the widest views of the entire Eastern Himalayas. Charkhol is surrounded by towering coniferous forests and is blessed by regular visits of rare Himalayan birds. Numerous species of butterflies, a wide variety of flowers and orchids spread riot of colors in the surroundings of Charkhole.
    Loleygaon is just 15 km from Charkol and Lava is around 32 km away. Rishyap, Rishi and Gumba Dara fall within 30 km from Charkhol and Rikkisum and Pedong is around 50 km away. Another new found wonderland, Chuikhim, is just a walk away from Charkol.

    Take a nature walk along the forest trails of Charkol, play a friendly game of cricket on the valley, sit out and bask in the sun, build a bonfire under the night sky, do bird watching or just sit on your cottage’s verandah and gaze at the mountains.
